Why Port?

The workflow logic behind ATR is not the hard part. What breaks down at scale is everything underneath: the context, the gates, the persistence, and the measurement. Port provides these as platform primitives so you are not rebuilding them for every new AI workflow.

A work item arrives for a feature affecting the payments-service. A workflow fires. Without Port, the workflow has to call five different APIs to learn the service tier, find the owning team, check for active incidents, pull recent deployments, and determine blast radius. That is infrastructure you now own and maintain. With Port, one catalog query returns all of it. The routing decision runs in seconds, not minutes, and the result is stored on an entity that every downstream tool can query.

The catalog is the foundation

Routing is only as good as the data behind it. A scorecard rule that excludes T1 services only works if services in your catalog are tagged with their tier. A blast radius assessment only works if the service-to-dependency graph is populated.

Port's software catalog is designed to aggregate this data from your existing tools: GitHub, PagerDuty, Jira, cloud providers, and 50+ other integrations. By the time you run ATR, the context is already there. You are not building a new data layer - you are querying one you already have.

Deterministic gates, not LLM guesses

AI is good at generating PRDs and tech specs. It is not a good sole arbiter of "should an agent touch this?" That decision needs to be consistent, auditable, and controlled by your platform team, not by whatever the model outputs on a given day.

Port scorecards let you define the gates as config:

  • Service tier not T1.
  • Blast radius was calculated and is not high.
  • No active incidents.
  • Priority not high or critical.

These run deterministically on every ticket. The AI narrative explains the decision in plain language, but the decision itself comes from rules your team controls.
